Day 10
Burfordville, MO to Cherokee Pass, MO
38 miles

About noon we had lunch at the Hideaway diner, completely dilapidated building, along the road, in the middle of nowhere. No other commercial building for many miles. We survived.

The hills were steep and constant. Hard work.

Cherokee Pass is so named because in 1838 with an escort of almost 10,000 soldiers, 19,000 Cherokees from Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi were evicted from their tribal lands and force-marched to Oklahoma along the Trail of Tears. They passed through this area. Almost one-fourth of them died during the journey.
